PANCHAKARMA

Panchakarma, deals with 5 therapeutic procedures/actions. It is a long recognized,integral part of ayurvedic system of medicine and is popularly known as detoxification therapy essentially including biopurificatory procedures aiming to cleanse the channels of the body function; in both healthy and diseased people.

What is Panchkarma ?

Panchkarma is a unique, natural, holistic, health-giving series of therapeutic treatments that cleanse the body’s deep tissues of toxins, open the subtle channels, bring life-enhancing energy, thereby increasing vitality, inner peace, confidence and well being. These include Oil Massage, sweating therapies, Nasya, localized bastis, mild herbal enemas, purgatives and other therapies along with dietary regimens and herbal supplements, per individual constitution and conditions. Thus, Panchakarma is an individualized process of Rejuvenation and Detoxification. It’s a purification program of flushing out the accumulated toxins and maintenance of health.

Vamana

Vamana is a therapy that involves controlled emesis for removal of increased Kapha dosha from the body.

Who will benefit ?

Vamana is very useful in curing of cough, cold etc. It results in improved digestion, and strengthening of the sense organs, mind and intelligence.

Virechana

Virechana is a medicated purgation therapy which removes Pitta toxins from the body. It completely cleanses the gastro-intestinal tract.

Who will benefit ?

Indicated in all healthy people between the age of 16-60 years and also in the diseases caused by Pitta like acid peptic disorders, urticaria, burning sensation in the body and eyes, skin diseases like psoriasis, eczema etc

Basti

Basti(Enema) is considered as the mother of all Panchakarma treatments. It cleanses the accumulated toxins from all the 3 doshas : Vata, Pitta and Kapha, through the colon. Basti is also highly beneficial as a rejuvenating treatment. Medicated oil or ghee and an herbal decoction are given as enema to clean the colon and increase the muscle tone.

It is of 2 types:

1. Anuvasana basti: This is medicated oil enema; The treatment nourishes and rebuilds the body tissues (Dhatus), restores and fortifies the body’s immunity. This promotes better nutrition while removing accumulated toxins (Malas) from the colon. Prior to this procedure the individual’s body is prepared by massage and steam bath specially for the stomach and lower back.
2. Niruha basti : This treatment is normally done after a course of Anuvasana Basti. This is a cleansing enema where combinations of honey, salt, oil, herbal paste, and herbal decoction are administered as per the patient’s requirement and health condition.

Who will benefit ?

It is beneficial for constipation, neurological ailments, paralysis, flatulence, lower backache arthritis, Ankylosing spondylitis, Gout, rheumatism, sciatica etc.

Nasya

Nasya means administration of medicine through nasal route. Prior to the administration of medicine face, shoulders and chest are massaged with specific herbal oil and steam inhalation is done to open up the channels. This treatment will cleanse and strengthen the nasal passages, allowing breathing fully and easily.

Who will benefit ?

This treatment is very good for treating Trigeminal Neuralgia, Bell’s Palsy, improves memory & eye sight, insomnia, elimination of excess mucus, hyper pigmentation in the face, premature graying of hair, clarity of voice, headaches, Hemiplegia, loss of smell and taste, frozen shoulder, migraine, stiffness of the neck, nasal allergies, nasal polyp, neurological dysfunctions, Paraplegia and sinusitis.
